   Wow, they’re both great wrestlers. I think Hendricks would have won 3 out of 4 times but that day it just wasn’t his time. Not to take anything away from Perry. He’s a great wrestler too. I didn’t understand the false start calls there. Those guys were just too fast for me to see it I guess.

   @shwann125 smith would have moved perry up to 74 before he made him wrestle behind hendricks dont forget perry was an all american at 74 the year before this

   @hurricanetiger actually he didnt push him away. the ref grabs him by the shoulder and pulls him to face the crowd.

   True-thatta. Johnny Hendricks was classy in defeat, found it in himself to act decently which he had not done before.

   Or go up or down in weight. John redshirted a year at Ok State, I happened to be there then, and Clar Anderson won a national title for Ok State at 134 which was John’s weight so they could have worked something out but perhaps Mark wanted to establish himself elsewhere. I just curious as to how Mark Sr. and John Smith are getting along after this all went down.

    yeah, i agree with you. this championship match is one of the best ive ever seen.. The back story of these two is something you would find in the WWF, real life soap opera with these two.

    John Smith Recruited hendricks pretty hard.. so it came down too, wrestle and start for four years? or constantly battle hendricks til im a senior… i think it was a pretty easy decision for him.. Smith knew what wrestler he wanted.

    It’s amazing how much Johny Hendricks looks like he could be a Smith brother (Lee Roy and John) and yet he lost to the son of the Smiths sister (who married Mark Perry who wrestled at Ok State). I think that really broke John Smith’s heart, that he decided to go to Iowa…

    Its noth whether Hendricks is better, thats not what makes a champion. The fact that Perry had lost to Hendricks and knew in his mind he was a beter wrestler and still went out wrestled his ass off makes him a champion.

    those werent leg locks, they were just to get a stailmate and return to the starting position. fair is fair man, that reversal was a-game and so was the tilt. And no matter what happens in the first 2 periods is nothing, if you make it to 3, then you still have a chance to regain everything. LIke the lehigh guy losing by 12 points who pinned the other guy with the cement mixer with about 10 seconds left. Impossible is nothing
