March is always a tough month to slog through. The fall has plenty of holidays to look forward to, culminating in December. January is the start of the year, and even February has Valentine’s Day. But March isn’t much of a month when it comes to entertainment.

That said, there is still plenty of fun to be had if you live in New Orleans. There are a number of venues hosting concerts and sporting events this March that will keep you and your friends entertained throughout the month.

To begin with, March kicks off with two dates of performances by alternative metal band Three Days Grace. The rockers will be at the Baton Rouge River Center Arena on March 2, and will follow up with a performance at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City. Those who haven’t heard of Three Days Grace might not be plugged into the metal or hard rock scene. Those who have know that this is a band that has clawed its way up the charts since the late ’90s.

The band started in Norwood, a city in Ontario, Canada, but quickly found audiences receptive to their emotive hard rock in the States, as well. They’re often compared with alternative metal bands like Chevelle or Breaking Benjamin, and despite the angst that appears on their records, Three Days Grace has achieved a pretty high level of success. By 2007, Billboard had actually declared the band the number one Rock Artist of the Year.

Even though Three Days Grace only has three studio records to its name, those three have attracted packs of enthusiastic fans awaiting their energetic performances. With two opportunities to see them in March, fans should certainly get their rock on. The big question is whether they’ll get tickets before they all sell out.

That takes care of music for the month, but what about sports? Well, anyone who is a basketball fan has a great matchup to look forward to this March in New Orleans: the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to be squaring off with the New Orleans Hornets on March 24. Locals will be showing off their pride by purchasing New Orleans Arena event tickets in advance. The arena is the Hornets’ home turf, so they’ll probably have more people in the stands screaming and shouting in support of them.

Fan support from the stands isn’t always enough to turn the tide of a game, however, and the Cavaliers certainly have quite a bit of talent on their side. For one thing, the Cavs now have Shaq on their bench, who is a pretty formidable secret weapon on the court. They also still have NBA All-Star LeBron James on their team, so the Hornets had better sharpen their stingers and prepare for a tough fight at the arena.

Sports and concerts: That’s quite a choice. You could do both if you have the money for it. Or you could just choose one and save a little. Whichever way you go, you might want to consult StubHub and pick up tickets while they’re still available.

The Eagles will make their Hollywood Bowl debut on April 16, 17, and 20, 2010 with their “Long Road out of Eden” tour.

The Eagles are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1971 by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner.

With five number one singles and six number one albums, the Eagles were one of the most successful recording artists of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of their albums, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) and Hotel California, ranked among the 20 best-selling albums in the U.S. according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Hotel California is ranked 37th in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and the band was ranked #75 on the magazine’s 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. They also had the best selling album in the U.S. with Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975).

The Eagles broke up in 1980, but reunited in 1994 for Hell Freezes Over, a mix of live and new studio tracks. They have toured intermittently since then, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2007, Eagles released Long Road out of Eden, their first full studio album in 28 years. The next year they launched The Long Road out of Eden Tour in support of the album. The tour continued on into 2009, crossing North America and Europe, and will continue in 2010 with additional North American tour dates.

The Eagles have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, earning five #1 U.S. singles and six GRAMMY® Awards. Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is the best-selling album of all time, exceeding sales of 29 million units. The band’s Hotel California and Their Greatest Hits Volume 2 have sold more than 16 and 11 million albums respectively. They have captivated millions fans from over the world.

The Eagles will make their Hollywood Bowl debut on April 16, 17, and 20, 2010 with their “Long Road out of Eden” tour.

It’s been another tumultuous year in the music industry, a business that’s seeing significant challenges to virtually every aspect[.....]

It’s been another tumultuous year in the music industry, a business that’s seeing significant challenges to virtually every aspect of its business model, and that needs the pressure of such change as much as a polar bear needs a heat lamp. With peer-to-peer downloading of music that seems unstoppable no matter how many companies get shut down, bad press generated by poorly conceived punitive lawsuits against said file sharers, declining CD sales, increasing failure among traditional music retail stores, and well-known artists like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails striking out on their own and offering new releases online for free; it seems these days the music industry can’t catch a break.

But with all of this doom and gloom, the one positive for the industry in 2007 has been a relatively strong live concert market. Nostalgia has been the order of the day, with classic rock acts continuing to hit the road, their numbers bolstered by reuniting 80′s acts who’ve either got the itch as part of a midlife crisis, or who want to pad out their retirement income. Just look at the acts currently (week of November 20, 2007) holding the top fifteen spots on Pollstar’s Top 50 list of concert tours:

1. Bon Jovi
2. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
3. Van Halen
4. Celine Dion
5. Foo Fighters
6. Neil Young
7. Ozzy Osbourne
8. Tool
9. Billy Joel
10. The Police
11. John Mellencamp
12. Elton John
13. Stevie Wonder
14. The Spice Girls
15. Rage Against The Machine

I count four reunions (five if you include Springsteen touring with the E Street Band), one lounge act trying to escape Las Vegas, and a couple of relatively current bands. The rest will definitely fit nicely under the “nostalgia” umbrella – not that Billy Joel or Elton John aren’t good or relevant, it’s just that their music isn’t what you’d typically expect a twenty year old to be rocking out to, as their first choice.

The numbers aren’t all in yet, but the grosses are looking pretty good. While their tour actually began in 2005, The Rolling Stones’ A Bigger Bang Tour wrapped up in the autumn of 2007 and made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-grossing concert tour in history. Just how big is that, you ask? They raked in $560,000,000 (US dollars) for the 144 dates they played. That’s right, over half a billion dollars; almost four million dollars per night. Not bad pocket money.

Before we get all star-eyed about the dough that’s being made hand over fist on touring though, there are a few reality checks to consider.

First of all, the record labels themselves seldom see any money from touring, so it’s not like the concert revenue is helping to make up for declining CD sales. The artists themselves can find touring a very lucrative business, although even they don’t typically see the bulk of the cash that’s collected at the gates. According to industry averages, an artist can expect to net as much as thirty-five percent of ticket prices and fifty percent of merchandise sales for a show. The bulk of the take goes to paying promoters, road crews, venues, ticket sellers, and anyone else who has any involvement in the planning, marketing, running, setting up or cleaning up after a show.

Complicating the equation is the fact that ticket sales themselves have actually been relatively flat; as a matter of fact, they have shown a slight decline in some recent years. But, ticket prices have continued to increase significantly, especially among bands whose audience demographic skews toward the older, wealthier listener. According to Rolling Stone, the average concert ticket cost under £18 in 1999, and in 2003 that had increased to over £24. An LA Times investigation determined that the average price had climbed to £30 for 2006, so clearly there is something more than simple inflationary pressure at work.

This key issue becomes the critical factor behind the ranking of top-grossing touring acts. Promoters charge what the market will bear, and a group with a history (like the Rolling Stones) or a significant pent-up demand due to a break-up (The Police) or tendency to have somewhat older fans (both The Rolling Stones and The Police) will allow the promoters to charge considerably higher ticket prices. So it’s no surprise that the mega acts like The Stones, U2 and The Police can manage to tour, consistently pulling off premium ticket prices at multiple dates and ending up topping the concert charts, even though they may not have released a new CD in over twenty years.

Looking at numbers supplied by Pollstar (note: these have been rounded), you can easily see that relationship. In the 2005 concert year, the top concert gross list displayed what has become a familiar pattern: domination by nostalgia and classic rock acts, with the top five spots being held by The Rolling Stones, U2, Celine Dion, Paul McCartney, and The Eagles. Okay, Celine Dion is an odd one, but you can attribute that to gamblers in Las Vegas with more money than they know what to do with and a healthy bar tab.

The Rolling Stones captured the top spot by earning £80 million with an average ticket price of £65. U2 came in second, grossing £68 million with an average ticket price of £49. Look for a contemporary act on the top twenty list and you can find Coldplay in seventeenth spot, grossing £11 million with an average ticket price of a much more modest £19; Green Day hit number 12 with £17 million on £18 tickets. See the pattern? Even if Green Day or their promoters tried for the big payday at this point, would there be enough “kids” willing to shell out £49 for tickets? Would they attract enough baby boomers to make up for the shortfall? I doubt it.

The relatively lower grosses don’t mean other acts aren’t doing well touring, it simply means they aren’t playing as many gigs to as many fans, or they’re not charging nearly as much for tickets. They can do quite well, just not well enough to make the big early retirement pay cheque.

So now we’ve established that 2007 has been a pretty good year to be a touring rock band and gotten the financial nonsense out of the way, which shows have actually been getting the buzz?

The Police rank up there pretty highly. At first people watched with morbid curiosity, half expecting the old tensions to resurface and end with Sting and Stewart Copeland beating the hell out of each other on stage – come on, admit it, you were hoping it would all go down at the show you saw. Despite a slightly rough start, showing the band was clearly out of practice after all these years; they quickly found their groove and played to sold out shows and excellent reviews. The critics were happy, and the fans couldn’t buy tickets fast enough.

Rage Against The Machine was another of the most anticipated reunion acts, especially among the younger alternative rock set. The comic soap opera that has been Van Halen and David Lee Roth settled down enough to actually hit the road in 2007. Genesis reformed – at least the Phil Collins-led version of Genesis. Canadian progressive rockers Rush toured in support of their Snakes & Arrows CD. The Rock the Mic tour brought Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott together for a series of over 30 shows. According to Forbes magazine, the Dixie Chicks took less than a week to sell over £22 million in ticket sales for 57 shows.

For the pre-teen and (possibly early teen) set, Disney’s Hannah Montana has been “rocking” sold out venues everywhere. Another reunion of sorts, The Smashing Pumpkins, were also back in 2007, along with veterans Gordon Lightfoot, Van Morrison, John Fogerty, Rod Stewart, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan and Neil Young who all toured. Even occasionally befuddled rocker Ozzy Osborne has started out with Rob Zombie. Bon Jovi is selling tickets in a big way with favourable reviews, and old new wavers (is that a contradiction in terms?) Duran Duran and The Cure were on the road. Justin Timberlake got his groove on and Dane Cook proved that stand-up comics could sell out arenas too. Not to be left out in the cold by classic rockers and reunion acts, Incubus, Tool, Foo Fighters, Avril Lavigne, Mr. Avril Lavigne’s band (Sum 41), Korn, Modest Mouse, Jimmy Eat World, Fallout Boy, Cake, Avenged Sevenfold, Band of Horses and Arcade Fire, all made representations for the alternative rock crowd.

So how is 2008 shaping up in terms of concerts? Obviously we can’t predict too much at this stage, but I will be willing to throw this one out: tickets are going to continue to rise in price at a rate greater than inflation and the biggest grossing acts will once again be ageing rockers, with the ultimate combination of rocker and reunion topping the list. If the chemistry was right for their reunion concert in December, and if Robert Plant and Jimmy Page don’t end up in fisticuffs, it just might be that Led Zeppelin may commit to a tour, and if that happens look for them to be at the top of the list by this time next year. But coming back full circle to the problem record labels are having with declining CD sales, mega group and thorn-in-the-labels-side, artists’ rights champions Radiohead are also planning a 2008 world tour. Don’t count them out either.

It’s bound to be an interesting year.

For anyone who has ever searched for event tickets, watched ticket prices skyrocket or just didn’t hear about an event until it was too late, help has arrived. Ticketwood.com (http://www.Ticketwood.com), a new comparison search engine, is now available to ensure that visitors never miss another concert, sporting event, play, movie and more.

Instead of poring over local independent newspapers or standing in line at the box office or ticket counter for the latest must-see event, fun seekers can use the Ticketwood search engine technology quickly and easily to find lists of events and ticket providers, compare prices and make a purchase.

“We wanted to provide an alternative to ticket outlets such as Ticketmaster that monopolize the ticketing industry and limit consumer options. Experience has shown that when a top-tier outlet runs out of tickets, many consumers mistakenly believe that an event is sold out,” said Ali Ben, a member of the team of developers who created the Ticketwod.com. “Now we’re putting all of consumers’ options together in one event-ticketing directory.”

To this end, Ticketwood has secured strategic partnerships with a host of major ticket merchants and event-ticketing Web sites. “Our directory is on track to be one of the most comprehensive and reliable online ticket channels available,” stated Ben.

The Ticketwood team is constantly adding providers and eventually the site will have more ticket vendors integrated into its platform. “We plan to add services to complement our present search abilities on a continuing basis,” said Ben. “We are determined to create the most user-friendly ticket-shopping and event community on the Web.

The idea of going to a concert and experiencing their favorite performers doing it live excites live music fans[.....]

The idea of going to a concert and experiencing their favorite performers doing it live excites live music fans everywhere. Getting the concert ticket allocation is the first piece of anticipation. This comes with the release of concert tour dates and the concert ticket publicity. But the idea of queuing for hours or even days to get your hands on the best concert tickets will test even the most ardent fans tenacity.

Thank God the advent of the Internet has made this kind of concert ticket madness mostly a thing of the past. No longer do fans need to sleep rough overnight and waiting for the concert ticket selling venue to open and start selling the paper gold tickets for their concert. They don’t have to stand in line in all weathers in order to be first to get their hands on the best seats in the auditorium.

The Internet is the great leveler when it comes to concert tickets. Every fan can acquire concert tickets for just about any performance with the click of a mouse. There are any numbers of online concert ticket websites that make it easy and simple to buy any concert tickets as soon as they are released for sale.

Bye Bye box office. Does anybody regret the passing of the genuine box office in favor of the virtual concert ticket vendor? It isn’t just concert tickets that are online but you can buy tickets to every conceivable type of event too. The really good concert ticket agency websites are a veritable oracle when it comes to information on live performances of music, comedy shows, theatre plays and even circus events that are all over the World. Concert ticket sites are all about the 3 Ws. Who, where and when on the World Wide Web.

There are only two limitations to the concert tickets you can buy over the Internet. They are size of your budget and your inability to be in more than one place at one time.

Keep in touch. Having found your favorite concert ticket website you can keep in touch by signing up for regular email newsletters. Subscription is free and you only have put up with the pop-ups and marketing stuff that always goes hand in hand with them. When you subscribe to concert ticket websites you are sharing with them what type of entertainment you are willing to pay for. Then as new and similar events come on stream the concert ticket site will send you an email ‘heads up’ on the ticket information and when the concert tickets can be yours. You don’t even have to search for media references to your favored live performers.

A final word on concert ticket websites. Watch out for their special contests open to their newsletter subscribers or their members and loyal customers. Sometimes, you can get to win a pair of concert tickets or receive a discount on your concert ticket spend.

Fantastic deals to all concert, show and sport events!

Tiësto born Tijs Michiel Verwest on January 17, 1969 is a Dutch musician, DJ and record producer of electronic dance music. Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiësto. On his latest productions, however, he has dropped the “DJ” label and is now known simply as “Tiësto”, an alias which is an Italian twist of his childhood nickname.

In 1997 he founded the label Black Hole Recordings with Arny Bink, where he released the Magik and In Search of Sunrise CD series. In 1999 and 2000 he collaborated with Ferry Corsten to create Gouryella. His 2000 remix of Delerium’s “Silence” featuring Sarah McLachlan exposed him to more mainstream audiences. In 2001 he released his first solo album In My Memory which gave him several major hits that launched his career. He was named “World’s No.1 DJ” 3 consecutive times by DJ Magazine from 2002 through 2004.

Just after releasing his second studio album Just Be in 2004, at the Summer Olympics he performed live at the opening ceremony in Athens, Greece, becoming the first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympics Games. Tracks he made especially for the Olympics were mixed together and released as the mix compilation Parade of the Athletes later that year. He was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2004 by Queen Beatrix. He was chosen as the official ambassador for the Dance4Life foundation in May 2006, and released the song “Dance4Life” with Maxi Jazz to help spread the awareness of HIV/AIDS. In April 2007 Tiësto launched both his radio show Tiësto’s Club Life on Radio 538 in the Netherlands and released his third studio album titled Elements of Life. The album reached number one on the Dutch album chart as well on “Billboard Top Electronic Albums” in the U.S. and received a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2008. Tiësto released his fourth studio album called Kaleidoscope in October 2009.

Until early 2006 Tiësto had a relationship with Dutch model Monique Spronk. On January 10, 2008, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf announced that Tiësto and his girlfriend Stacey Blokzijl were going to get married on October 10, 2008. He proposed to her in December 2007 while they were visiting Mauritania. Tiësto cancelled his wedding for October 10, because he claimed to have a busy schedule and too little time for the preparations. Around Christmas 2008 Stacey Blokzijl broke up with Tiësto because of the constant delay of their wedding.

Tiesto is a Dutch musician, DJ and record producer of electronic dance music. Although Tiesto has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiesto. In 2001 he released his first solo album In My Memory which gave Tiesto several major hits that launched his career. Tiesto released his fourth studio album called Kaleidoscope in October 2009. Now Tiesto is going to tour in UK in March 2010.

When Carole King and James Taylor shared the stage of the Troubadour club in 1970 little did they know that this will be the performance to shoot them both to stardom. The next year King released her album Tapestry which is one of the best-selling albums ever, winning her four Grammy Awards that year and making her the first woman to win so many Grammys in a single year.

After forty years King and Taylor will get together again for their Troubadour Reunion tour. The tour will start with a show in Melbourne on March 27 and will continue with a series of shows in New Zealand and Japan. In May they will return for the US leg of the tour which will end in July.

The US leg of the Troubadour Reunion tour will include stops at Seattle’s Key Arena, San Jose’s HP Pavilion, LA’s Hollywood bowl, the Jobing.com Arena in Phoenix, the Sommet Center in Nashville, Chicago’s Allstate Arena, The Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Air Canada Centre in Toronto, as well as other venues in Columbus, Atlanta, Tampa, Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, and others.

King and Taylor will tour together with their old friends and band-mates guitarist Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, drummer Russ Kunkel and bassist Lee Sklar.

Both King and Taylor have been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, they are both Grammy Awards winners and are among the most successful musicians ever.

More than 1000 artists have recorded Carole King’s songs. From her 25 solo albums more than 100 hit singles have emerged. Her most successful album, Tapestry, is regarded as a classic not only for its original songs but also for popular covers such as Aretha Franklin’s version of “Natural Woman”. Most recently singer Christine Tobin and pianist Liam Noble expressed their desire to create an album based on Tapestry but looking at the songs from a jazz perspective. The project is called Tapestry Rewoven and is expected to be completely different from the original.
LCD Soundsystem have confirmed details of a forthcoming UK tour for this spring. The New York collective are to kick off at London’s Brixton Academy on April 23, around the same time as the arrival of their third album. Frontman James Murphy has previously hinted that the record could mark the last release from the group.
LCD Soundsystems have James Murphy at vocals & instruments. When performing live, Murphy is accompanied by the following band members: Al Doyle at guitar & percussion (also of Hot Chip), J.D. Mark at guitar, Phil Skarich at bass, Nancy Whang at keyboards & synthesizer (also of The Juan Maclean), Pat Mahoney & drums. All in Former live members include: Tyler Pope at bass (also in !!! and the now-defunct Out Hud) & Phil Mossman at guitar & percussion.
Band members
In January of 2010 it was announced that LCD Soundsystem would peform on the main stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and shortley after begin a tour of Europe.Murphy began recording in the summer of 2009 in Los Angeles. Possible song titles mentioned include “Why Do You Hate Music?” and “Love in LA”. For the 2009 Record Store Day the band released a cover of Suicide member Alan Vega’s song “Bye Bye Bayou”.On 18 November 2008 Al Doyle seemed to suggest in an interview with 6 Music that the band would soon be discontinued. However the following day both Doyle and James Murphy quashed this rumour, with Murphy indicating a new LCD Soundsystem album was on the way.Third album (2009–Till now)
After finishing touring for Sound of Silver the band recorded and released a song entitled “Big Ideas” on the soundtrack of the film 21. This song was ranked number 63 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Songs of 2008.Time magazine named “All My Friends” one of The 10 Best Songs of 2007, ranking it at #4. Writer Josh Tyrangiel praised the “magic” in the song, saying that the song’s “straightforward repetition of the same guitar, keyboard and bass lines, combined with lyrics about life without regret, and life with all kinds of regrets pays off with a punch about what we lose as we get older.” The album was also nominated for the 2007 Shortlist Prize, where it lost out to The Reminder by Feist. Also in December 2007 the band received a nomination for the Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album. The album was also named the best album of 2007 by publications such as The Guardian, Uncut and Drowned in Sound.LCD Soundsystem’s subsequent single “All My Friends” included a cover of the song by both Franz Ferdinand and former Velvet Underground member John Cale. The digital download “All My Friends” EP also includes a cover of the early Joy Division song “No Love Lost”. In September 2007 the “A Bunch of Stuff” EP was released and the band went on tour with Arcade Fire. Late in 2007 the band released “Someone Great” as the third single off of Sound of Silver and re-released 45:33 on CD and vinyl through DFA Records. In December 2007 there was a release of a 12-inch record containing b-sides from European singles for the North American market entitled “Confuse the Marketplace”.LCD Soundsystem’s second album, Sound of Silver, was released on March 12, 2007, to near universal critical acclaim. Praise included Mixmag awarding it the title Album of the Month, a 9.2 score from Pitchfork Media and a 5-star review from The Guardian. The album release was preceded by the single “North American Scum”.In October, 2006 James Murphy released a track entitled “45:33″ as part of a promotion with Nike for download from iTunes. The track is, strangely, 45 minutes and 58 seconds long, and was claimed to “reward and push at good intervals of a run”. However it was later revealed that this was not the case, but that Murphy merely wanted the opportunity to create a long piece of music, akin to E2-E4 by Manuel Göttsching.45:33 and Sound of Silver (2006–2008)
On December 8, 2005 the group received nominations for two Grammy awards in the Electronica category for their self-titled album and in the Dance category for “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House”. The band toured with M.I.A..LCD Soundsystem gained attention with its first single, “Losing My Edge”. Described as “an eight-minute, laugh-out-loud funny dissection of cool over a dirty electronic beat” the single became an underground dance favourite. This was followed by other well received singles “Give It Up” and “Yeah”.
Early singles and self-titled album (2002–2005)
LCD Soundsystem is the musical project of producer James Murphy, co-founder of dance-punk label DFA Records.
